Garlic Bread

Faster than the frozen kind. Softened butter gets stirred with garlic powder and parmesan and spread right to the edges of thick slices of Texas toast, which then bake until golden. Twelve minutes, start to finish. It belongs next to every pasta night in the library: spaghetti, lasagna, chicken parmesan, baked feta pasta.

Steps

  1. Heat the oven to 400°F. Set the butter out to soften while it heats. If it is still too hard to spread, microwave it in 5-second bursts until soft but not melted.
  2. Stir the softened butter together with the garlic powder and the parmesan cheese until smooth.
  3. Lay the Texas toast slices on a sheet pan and spread the garlic butter on each slice right to the edges — bare corners are what burn.
  4. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes. Check that the edges are golden and the butter has melted into the bread. Sprinkle with parsley and serve hot.
